I have been a fan of the multi-platinum selling supergroup ASIA since I was dancing round the living room singing Heat of The Moment back in 1982. So, when I was sent the band’s latest release ahead of my interview with the legendary Carl Palmer you can imagine my excitement!
ASIA In Asia – Live At The Budokan, Tokyo, 1983, is a fabulous deluxe box set stuffed full of goodies of recordings and memorabilia from when they visited Japan at the end of two years of touring.
The second of three shows at the historic Tokyo Budokan arena on 6th December 1983, would make history as the first live broadcast between Japan and MTV in America, an amazing achievement for its time.
And, to make further history, Greg Lake (ELP) stepped in at very short notice to join Carl Palmer, Geoff Downes and Steve Howe following the sudden departure of ASIA’s founder member John Wetton ahead of the tour.
Carl recounts his memories of the time and the reasons behind John Wetton’s departure in his tale, which will be aired on 20th May but, in the meantime, check out this beautiful boxed set!
It contains: 2LPs; 2xCDs; a 40 page 12” book; a blu-ray DVD; printed memorabilia; and ASIA pin badge, and will be available from BMG Records on 10th June.
